PULULAHUA
The Pululahua National Park is a hidden gem just north of Quito.
Situated next to the equator, the Pululahua is one of only two inhabited active (but dormant) craters worldwide, the largest on the american continent and the first and only declared Geobotanical Reserve in Ecuador.
It's volcanic history, changing microclimates and untouched nature, have created a unique place with majestic mountains, deep canyons, lava domes and a variety of different landscapes, flora and fauna.
The area also belongs to the Choco Andino Biosphere Reservation and is one of the most biodiverse regions in Ecuador.
With an elevation of 2.250 meters (7.400 feet) and year around temperatures of 10-28 degrees Celsius (50-83 degrees Fahrenheit) you get a mild, subtropical climate without any tropical diseases or altitude problems.
The growing period lasts all year long and is ideal for grass lands as well as a variety of fruits and vegetables.
The area has a lot of interesting sites like mineral springs, waterfalls and viewpoints that you can reach by great riding, hiking or mountain bike trails.
It’s tranquility, safety and small number of around 200 permanent inhabitants with a growing expat community, are ideal for a close to nature country lifestyle with friendly neighbors and as much privacy as you prefer.
This place offers the freedom and endless possibilities to shape it into your perfect home.
The ranch can be reached by a well maintained gravel road and is only 25 minutes off of the main road, next gas station and the closest town Calacali.
San Antonio and the equator site Mitad del Mundo are 45 minutes away and offer everything you might need from stores for grocery shopping or construction to restaurants and doctors.
The distance to Quito is around 1 hour and only 1,5 hours to the international airport.
Quito offers one of the best preserved historic colonial centers in South America (declared World Cultural Heritage site by the UNESCO in 1978) as well as lots of restaurants and cultural activities like festivals, parades, art galleries, museums, concerts, parks, music and film events.
